Vermont: online casino, sweepstakes and sports betting law

Vermont went live with mobile sports betting on 11 January 2024, when DraftKings, FanDuel and Fanatics began taking bets under licenses from the Department of Liquor and Lottery. Online casinos, by contrast, are kept illegal by 13 V.S.A. chapter 51. Sweepstakes casinos sit in between: we found no ban, and section 2143b permits free-entry sweepstakes.

Real-money online casino

Not legal

Not legal. In Vermont, it is a crime to set up a lottery (13 V.S.A. 2101) or to dispose of property by chance (2102), and section 2135 bans the sale or lease of slot machines and other chance devices. The state's only online betting law, 31 V.S.A. chapter 25, covers sports wagering alone.
