Maryland: online casino, sweepstakes and sports betting law

Marylanders can bet on sports through licensed mobile sportsbooks, which Maryland Lottery and Gaming lists by name. By the agency's own account, those books and registered fantasy contests are the only legal online gambling, so online casinos are not an option. Criminal Law s. 12-103 forbids gambling for money. Against sweepstakes casinos, the agency has used cease-and-desist letters rather than a law that targets them.

Real-money online casino

Not legal

Not legal. Maryland Criminal Law s. 12-103 forbids betting or gambling for money or anything of value; it is a civil offense with fines of up to $1,000. Section 12-102 bans bookmaking and keeping a place for betting. Maryland Lottery and Gaming names licensed sportsbooks and registered fantasy operators as the only legal online options.
