Colorado: online casino, sweepstakes and sports betting law

Sports bettors in Colorado have had legal, licensed options since 1 May 2020, both online and at retail books, under the Division of Gaming. Online casino games are a different story: a 2013 Attorney General opinion found that legalizing them would take a change to the state constitution. On sweepstakes casinos, we have not confirmed from a primary source how current law applies.

Real-money online casino

Not legal

Colorado's Attorney General, in Formal Opinion No. 13-02 issued in December 2013, found that online gambling falls outside the limited gaming that Article XVIII, Section 9 allows. Only a constitutional amendment could make it legal, the opinion said. Sports betting has its own licensing, covered below.

Sweepstakes casinos

Not confirmed

There is no statute written for sweepstakes that we could find, but opinions from the Attorney General treat gambling run as a sweepstakes as illegal.

We haven't confirmed this in the law itself yet. Reported status: restricted.
