Kentucky: online casino, sweepstakes and sports betting law

Sports betting is the one legal form of online gambling in Kentucky. It runs through licensed racetracks, and the Horse Racing Commission's approved mobile apps have taken bets since September 2023. Promoting gambling is a felony under KRS 528.020, and since sports wagering is the only form state law allows, no online casino is legal. On 17 June 2026 the Attorney General sued sweepstakes operator VGW under the existing gambling statutes.

Real-money online casino

Not legal

Online casinos are not legal. KRS 528.010 treats betting anything of value on a chance-based game or scheme as gambling, and KRS 528.020 treats promoting gambling in the first degree as a Class D felony. Sports wagering is allowed by KRS 230.805, and we found no law that allows online casino play.
